How much does it cost?

The main costs of being a Beaver, Cub or Scout in our group are subscription costs, uniform costs and costs for some major activities such as camps.

Scouting is about everyone being able to join the adventure and we at the 8th/19th Harrow Scout Group don't want young people to miss out due to the cost. If you're concerned about the cost, please speak to us in confidence; there may be assistance available.

We also use some of the money raised from our fund raising activities to subsidise some activities. This helps to ensure that children in our group have the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities. Please support our fundraising activities.

In a recent survey, over 90% of parents felt that our group provides excellent value.

Subscription Costs

The subscription fees we charge help to cover the costs of :

  • Membership of the Group, District and National Scout Association;
  • Insurance that the Scout Association carries;
  • Use of the Scout Hall;
  • Cost of materials and resources for weekly meetings;
  • Equipment purchase and maintenance;

Subscriptions are due in the beginning of the term to which they apply. Please pay promptly so that our leaders can focus efforts in running activities rather than chasing parents for fees.

Uniform costs

Uniform costs

Scouting is a uniformed organisation and all Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are required to wear the appropriate uniform. This includes the shirt, belt and trousers.

The Group will provide the initial woggles, scarves and badges though you may have to pay for replacements if these are lost.

Uniforms can be purchased from Scout shops. The official shop can supply all your uniform and Scouting supplies from their website shop.scouts.org.uk  or by telephone (01903 766921).

Local alternative are Angels (363 Rayners Lane, Pinner, HA5 5EN, 020 8866 9972, angelsuniform.co.uk) or Teeny Wear (325 High Road, Harrow Weald, HA3 5EQ, 020 8863 3892) and they hold stock of Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorer and adult uniforms.

Activity costs

Activities, such as camps, visiting the pantomime, narrowboat trips are generally charged “at cost” although we sometimes get ta lower admission rate to public events than the general public! Outdoor gear, such as waterproof wear, hiking boots and a torch may also be required.

The fees we charge for overnight or longer trips will usually include food, accommodation and activities. Transport for distant activities is included; for more local activities, parents are expected to help provide transport.
